First, they said:
“I’m sorry to break this news to you, but based upon all the results, it is unlikely you will ever be able to bear children. I know this is disturbing to learn since you are only in high school, but be comforted that there are a lot of options that you can consider when you are older.”
Years later, elsewhere they said:
“We’re sorry, but our agency doesn’t believe that you are a good candidate for adoption with us at this time.”
In another office, they said:
“We currently don’t have any programs in place to defray the costs of surrogate parenting fees. It will be necessary for the full payment to be rendered before we can provide any services to your family.”
And today, I say:
Happy 4th birthday to my adorable, sweet, amazing little miracle boy. You are here, and you are loved. While they meant well, what THEY said is no match for what HE said. And even on those days when you are getting on my laaaast nerve, I am enormously grateful for the opportunity to be your mother. I love you, love you, love you so much. Enjoy your special day.
